Amazon.co.uk Review: De La Soul's debut, 3 Feet High & Rising, marked them as one of hip-hop's most creative, innovative forces; they were immediately marked out as the creative leaders of the innovative Native Tongues family. Ever since, De La has fought that image: their second album was called De La Soul is Dead; their fourth, Stakes is High, found them taking on a more hardcore, aggressive sound. Eleven years after their debut, De La is the only Native Tongues posse still vital, and on Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump, they've got presence enough to call into question the entire De La mythos. Undeniably creative, the album takes its cues from mainstream hip-hop and R&B, meaning that plugs one (Posdunos), two (Dave, aka Trugoy the Dove) and three (Maseo) have now made as many albums as innovators as they have made as innovatees.
For the first time, De La defer to their guest stars, letting them lead the way: on "My Writes", the vocal cues come from Xzibit and Alkoholics Tash and J-Ro, with Roots-style production; the fantastic single "Oooh" feels dominated by Redman, even if he only pops up on the choruses; "All Good", their collaboration with Chaka Khan, is clearly meant as a Erykah Badu-style collaboration; only the short, sample-heavy "Declaration", which recalls Buhloone Mind State's jazzy flow, feels like unadulterated De La.
Still: this may not be your father's De La Soul, but it's still an album that they can be proud of. The production is mature and fun, with "Thru Ya City" giving off a great funk vibe, and plenty of flourishes that show a familiarity with the works of Swizz Beats, DJ Premier and Timbaland--though all filtered through the group's "been there, done that" experience. De La may no longer be producing landmark albums, but they're not ready to be relegated to the historical society themselves. --Randy Silver

Rating: - Hip hop and don't stop
Several years on and this fantastic piece of audio-ware is still in my multi-changer in my car. It truly is the most amazing album I have ever heard, ever since I've owned it i've been tapping the wheel to 'My writes', nodding my head to 'Oooh' and 'I C Y'all' and belting my lungs out to 'All Good'. When I put this CD on I skip track 1, the intro, and then play the whole of the rest of the CD right through. The depth and range of the tracks due to all the cameos on it really make it very listenable, ... Read More
Rating: - Can't have been on 'Ghost Weed'
As this is De La Soul's fifth album, you would expect them to run out of ideas, but they keep coming back to show us more talent and make us laugh harder. My particular favorite track is "The Art Of Getting Jumped" with its catchy chorus and interesting guitar riff which is pure excellence. Also, the weird noise just before and during the chorus can also be found on track 7 on their first album, FACT!
Rating: - Top knotch, really good, what can i say.
De La Soul are based in middlesborough and the unmistakable sound of their music is a tribute to all people who grew up in the area. With tracks like 'when i go home' and 'All the homies' this album will keep u entertained for a long long time. What makes 'artoficialintelligence' a particularly distinctive album is the simplicity of its beats. The clean, unmolested Hip-Hop grooves keep u coming back to this one time and time again.

All I can really say about this ablum is that it is one of the best comeback albums of all time. This Album also features many great hip hop stars like Busta Rhymes and Xzibit.

anyone who remembers the De La Soul that were 'of the old skool' may be slightly surprised at this highly innnovative new album. The raw beats and melodic accompaniments of their older tunes are still present, but the use of newer technology makes the whole affair seem almost too smooth. Couple this with the eloquent lyrics and stlye of some of Hip Hops most respected MC's and you are left with an album that should be on almost everyone's playlist. Throw in a few big name collaborations (Redman, Chaka ... Read More
