Editorial Review:

Amazon.co.uk Review:
The album cover of this self-titled release depicts the nine members of Slipknot in creepy masks, the dark image confirmed by the presence of a parental advisory sticker. Inside, foul language and subversive lyrics complete the picture. Yet Slipknot are no Insane Clown Posse, using hyperbole to mask a lack of talent. Slipknot's sound, while indebted to the likes of Korn, is more aggressive and creative; indeed, it's a closer kin to Slayer and death metal, yet listenable and surprisingly melodic. The common denominator among Slipknot and the late 1990s crop of neo-metal-rap bands is producer Ross Robinson (Korn, Limp Bizkit), who discovered the Iowa-bred Slipknot and signed them to his label, I Am Records. His stellar production, melded with wonderfully creepy percussive elements, a sampler, a DJ, metallic-grind guitars, and singer Corey Taylor's immense passion and wide melodic range, makes Slipknot immensely listenable. Slipknot isn't for everyone, but they provide a visceral and satisfying ride for fans of the hard stuff. --Katherine Turman

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - debut and fresh
fantastic i heard of slipknot three years ago on the scuzz chanel and i just got blown away by the awesomness of the guitars, the vocals and the drums and bass. three drummers you might thing all messed up well your wrong this is one of the best albums on bilboard. the bands death metal beats and roaring vocals class it up even more i can almost recite all of the lyrics the songs are catchy, edgy and have a bucketload of attitude some more than others. The best songs are:
spit it out

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Best album of the past decade
Best album of the past ten years - I'm serious.

'Slipknot' crystalises all that is good about hardcore metal. I've loved this kind of stuff from the mid 80s, all the way from Celtic Frost through Naplam Death in the Lee Dorian days to 90s death metal. Great stuff that's always scratched an itch for me.

But nothing brings it all together like this album. It just gets everything so... RIGHT. The combination of emotion - raw aggresion, rage and a bit of humour - with melodies, ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - forget BMTH, JFAC, IKTPQ... This is the real stuff!
I am not a fan of "Nu-Metal/Screamo", in fact, I despise all these "emo/scene kidd" bands kicking around at the moment. Most guys will take a first listen to a "Slipknot" song, and without thinking straight, will rate it as "screamo" (that meaning they fit into all this "Emo" stuff). Slipknot never have, and never will, fit into this category.

Yes, Slipknot ARE heavy. And yes, they are not going to everybody's cup of tea, I can dig that. What I don't dig is people fitting them into all this ... Read More

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Meh. Too repetitive, got some some good moments though (very Little)
Well i'm 17 years old I'm a massive metalhead my favourite bands are Iron Maiden, Dragonforce, Manowar, Slayer & Metallica(& Megadeth same spot). I like any music I don't care what genre it is as long as I like it, and this debut by Slipknot aint that good. All the songs here sound too similar the riffs are aswell too similar. Though Corey Taylor is indeed an awesome vocalist it doesn't show it here. I mean Slipknot are a good band just listen to Vol. 3 Subliminal Verses that's brilliant (maybe has ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Really *Sic*
Although many people think that this was Slipknot's debut album, they had already released their debut Mate Feed Kill Repeat 3 years previous (albeit with a rather different line-up) and had actually recorded a follow-up named Crowz which was never released.

Anyway over half of the songs on this album are simply rerecorded or slightly altered versions of their previous songs. Having said that 9 years later it still sounds cutting-edge, argueably the best nu-metal album recorded, and should appeal ... Read More
