Editorial Review:

Amazon.co.uk Review:
The writer of the theme tune for Ally McBeal, Vonda Shepard has become a fully-fledged American celebrity. She's no major-label diva, though--after being unceremoniously dumped by Warner Brothers when her first two albums didn't sell, Shepard was plucked from a tiny stage by David E Kelly, the creator of Ally McBeal, and within a year had attained stardom as Ally's muse, forever hovering in the background with a musical truism and some scraps of wisdom. Fans will be disappointed that Heart & Soul doesn't include McBeal theme tune Searchin' My Soul but there's much else besides; a strutting duet with Al Green, on "To Sir With Love", the world-against-the-girl blues of "World Without Love" and the bouncy pop of "Confetti". A collection of reserved, polished white-soul songs that are pleasingly lacking in bombast, pretension, or rough edges; this is perfect listening material for America's most neurotic lawyer. --Louis Pattison

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Definitely a must for late night listening
Lots of classic covers all sung beatifully. Whatever mood you're in there's a song that epitomises your feelings at the time.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A soulful CD that speaks to the heart
I love this CD and never tire of it. V Shepard has written many of the songs and other songs are classics that she does great justice to. This is the CD when you need to express yourself a bit and sing at the top of your voice in the car, where no one can hear you!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A really moving CD with a good mixture of titled.
I sing along at my computer, relaxing and some beautiful melodies mixed with other good 'classic' numbers. Disappointed that Barry White number not on it, but good value anyhow. I think many of these songs will be long standing classics and I would like to know if I can obtain either single sheets or album of Vonda Shepard songs. They would sell well and promote her songs even further.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - vonda shepard/ally mcbeal
For all "die-hard" ally fans this is an absolute must. Being able to listen to memories wherever you are is the best. Vincent and Baby, don't you break my heart slow have to be the best songs on the album, although they all grow on you as soon as you hear them. It's one of those albums that you look at the track list and think, oh yeah, i know say 6 or 7 of them but you listen to them and the albums finished before you know it and the songs (and pictures of ally dancing in the courtoom with ... Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Vonda's new songs capture the heart and sole of Ally McBeal
Vonda Shepard's second album of songs from Ally McBeal compliments the first one well. It contains many of the musical flourishes that are a hallmark of her musical arrangements, whilst adding enough variations on a theme to maintain their originality.

The album stands on its own merits, but will also help afficianados of the TV series to picture scenes featuring their favorite characters. Vonda Shepard's own songs compare well with those that she covers, a particular favourite being ... Read More
