Editorial Review:

Amazon.co.uk Review:
Enya's 1988 recording, Watermark, achieved landmark success with her groundbreaking use of multi-tracking technology to fuse new age and Celtic themes and instrumentation. The meticulous production defines her sound and achieves continuity even while weaving together tender ballads, piano pieces, massively layered vocal harmonies and symphonic synthesizer movements. Although Enya's pristine voice isn't especially strong, her lead vocals possess a vulnerability that reflects the lyrics' sense of personal searching. From the ubiquitous, frothy single "Orinoko Flow" to the hard, bold edge of "Cursum Perficio", Enya's style remains fresh and engaging. --Richard Price

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Just lose yourself
This was the album that put Enya on the map musically and it's easy to see why.Haunting vocals, mystical music and an artist of rare talent.

With many fantastic songs including 'Orinoco Flow','Storms In Africa' and 'Evening Falls',this is an album you can switch on,chill out to and just lose yourself. It has stood the test of time too and sounds as refreshing today as when it was originally released.

'Watermark' is a fine album, indeed it is a classic of it's type.Enya may ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Lusty, with pure beauty!
What can I say that hasn't been said? Love it! A combination of simplicity through the Roland D-50 used for the lead synths, and the multiple overlapping of vocals makes this a unique album - seamless, to be more precise. Obviously theirs nothing more to be said about Enya's vocal range, but her musical ability is fantastic; the way she contrasts low and high harmonies, to the accomplishment of giving this a universal 'world' sound is to be aspired by. If I was stranded on an island, this would be ... Read More

i first fell in love with enya's music at the age of 10, when introduced to this fabulous album by my mum. i have since purchased three further copies of the cd (i have one in the car, and one in the house), after having worn out my first!!
i have all of eny's cd's, but this remains my favourite. i find the music absolutely moving, and must listen to at least some of the cd every single day, yet i have never once become bored of it (even after listening to it for the last 21 years!!!).

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The best album EVER !!!
I first listened to tis album when it just came out in 1989. After literally "chewing" up the cassette, I bought the CD in 1997, and the feeling was the same; the enthusiasm still there when one just buys a CD. Music changes, styles do, likewise music formats, but the passion of listening to a great album like this one remains. Listen to "On your Shore" - It's a classical masterpiece. Even Cursom Perficio;though sung in a foreign tongue, the melody is simply spiritual. Try listening to "Storms in Africa; ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Watermark - Watered down!
Like most of Enya's loyal fans, I bought Watermark shortly after it came out around 1988/89.I've often thought about buying copies since as gifts, but notice the more recent pressings have had one track removed. 'Storms in Africa' originally had two parts, the second part being the last track. This has now been taken off the album, I think because they wanted it for the compilation album that came out in the late 1990s. A subtle move, but a bit sneaky on the part of Warner Music. Still a fine album though!
