Amazon.co.uk Review: In the liner notes to Jamiroquai's debut album, lead singer and mastermind Jason Kay delivers a sincere, if oversimplified, screed about distributing the wealth and saving the rainforests. The lyrics follow suit: except for a single love tune ("Blow Your Mind"), Kay bemoans war, greed, racism, and conformity, or extols the power of music as a drug ("Hooked Up") or as a catalyst for social revolution. This is not Jamiroquai's most eloquent album, nor their strongest musically, what with most songs structured as long-form, open-ended jams weighing in at six minutes or more. Though interesting as a chronicle of Kay's musical vision taking shape, overall it's a document that will appeal most to Deadheads and jam-band fans. --Suzanne McElfresh

A defining album, an album that becomes a part of you and that will stay with you. This album inspired me to learn the bass guitar and I still have a lot of fun playing along.
Rating: - **THE BEST**
This is the best album i have ever bought! Every track is fantastic, my favourites being 'Too young to die', 'when you gonna learn', 'if i like it, i do it'. This album has some a super feel good grooves - 'music of the mind' is a excellent making you feel relaxed and calm. A must have! The best jamiroquai album yet/ever in my opinion.
Rating: - The best funk album ever.
Its really very simple, this is not only jamiroquais best album and defining piece of work, it is perhaps the best album i have ever heard. It is pure funk and jazz of a genuine nature, none of that electric rubbish from funk oddyseyy, this is real music. This is for the real fans only, if you liked space cowboy (which is also great) then get this as its near perfection.

This album blends great jazz-funk-dance beats with strong lyrics. "White gets 2 and black get 5 years" or "a little boy in hungry and is just a picture in the news". Jamiroquai may have cornered the summer sound CD market but this first album is a little different from anything else they offered after 1993- fresh sounding and original. Im a fan of most of the other music JK has put out but this can be played over and over. Check out rack 6- Emergency on Planet Earth and Revolution 1993.
Rating: - Jamiroquai first funk odyssey
One of my favourite albums in my music collection. This is a fusion of funk, soul and acid jazz. Jamiroquai have been around a while, but this is where it all started, in 1993 with the album Emergency On Planet Earth. The theme of the album is basically based on how there is an emergency on the earth, with people starving and the fact that innocent people are dying due to war.
The first track "When You Gonna Learn" starts the album off with the clear message -we've got ... Read More
