In my record/cd collection, I have stacks and stacks of Sinatra and Tony Bennett, etc but only one Dean Martin tape....a very old one. I recently saw the outstanding "Rat Pack" in London and was reminded of the great songs Dean recorded. I've had this cd for a week and it's brilliant. If you are hesitating as to whether or not you should buy it...DON'T! Twenty one excellent tunes sung in that irresistible style....I've been singing them all week!

Dean Martin had two separate hit-making periods - in the fifties with Capitol and in the sixties with Reprise. The early sixties were not successful in the charts, although Dean continued to record albums and was also kept busy in other ways. You would normally have to buy one album to get his Capitol music and another to get his Reprise music. This collection spans both periods, although there is also a second volume, so you may end up buying two CD's anyway.
Rating: - Classic Cool from the laid-back King.
I'd heard some of these songs years ago but I'd forgotten how good they were. It was a real pleasure to rediscover Deano, especially the wonderful 'Gentle on my Mind', my favourite track. But it's so hard to knock any of these songs, they are incredibly mellow and laid back with superb vocalisation. They make you want to get up and dance. The recordings are excellent quality - highly recommended.
