Rating: - summer festival time
whatever time of year i hear this album,i get a yearning for late july/early august and cambridge/womad festival.this is a great album, which for some unknown reason,is never quoted as one eliza carthys better albums. great fiddle/accordian playing from the first song trip to fowey, with standout tracks bonapartes retreat and good morning mr walker will have your toes tapping. so if you like the albums red/rice,try this album,as its probably eliza,s most upbeat album.
Rating: - Contaigiously fun record
This is a lovely album in all respects; first class playing, splendid singing, great songs, and the pervasive sense of fun being had by all concerned that is a part of what makes Eliza Carthy so pleasing to listen to. Plenty of light-hearted and sporadically rude songs, 'Liza's distinctive, strong voice and open, honest and strident fiddle style, and a great selection of instrumentation throughout from the Kings of Calicutt make for a fun listen. I found it worked wonders for painting the house!
